Anna’s Story: Neglect of The Innocent {Anna turned three years old on November 1st, 2002. We still have gotten no word from Nicole, but my mother seems to think that she is no longer in the state of Tennessee. - S.M, December 2002} Fun, wild, and party loving†¦this all comes to mind when I think of my aunt Nicole. I can’t remember her ever being very responsible, but yet she was my favorite out of my mothers three other sisters. Three years ago, this party girl had a beautiful baby who she named Anna Michelle. Nicole has not seen Anna since she was ten days old. The reason for this is that my baby cousin Anna has been living with my family and I. This is Anna’s story: Anna came into this word like most of the rest of us. She developed inside her mother Nicole’s stomach for nine months, and was successfully delivered on November 1st, 1999 in the Johnson City Medical Center at 4:23am. She was a healthy baby, weighing in at six pounds and 5 ounces, with no defects or sicknesses, and delivery time was a mere five to six hours. Nicole and Anna were doing wonderful, and were allowed to go home that next evening around 8:00. You would think that after nine months of baby planning, Nicole would have everything that a baby would need, like diapers, food, and clothes. But like I said before, Nicole was a true party girl, always living life on the edge and taking the fast road in life, and defiantly never planning for anything, and apparently did nothing of this sort. Nine days later, baby Anna and mommy Nicole were at our front door. Anna had on an old looking nightgown and a dirty bib, and to tell you the truth, her mother Nicole was not looking much better. The diaper bag that Nicole was grasping looker fairly new, but we couldn’t help but notice that it was barley filled. She had only two jars of baby food, and maybe one or two diapers for Anna.

Time to become an adult has come. Having an independent life has some happy and difficult moments. However, these situations improve our life in several enriching ways. At this point in the life we have to define our goals and start working for them. When we become an adult we have two choices, and you can choose the one that could take you to the top, or you can take the easiest one and be just another person of the common people. On December first 2012, I arrived to New York State. At my 20 years old, I had to leave my homeland and I was responsible for my life and my own decisions everything was new for me. It was like jumping into the water not knowing how to swim. Now, I am working with my uncle in his own business, I never thought that I am going to be involved in this kind of business. On the other hand, I am attending at college; I want to get in the business major but I am still taking ESL classes because every day as a foreign student I need to learn more English as I can. I feel glad that I can speak English and understand it more than before this way I can accomplish my goal which is finish my education in other language, in a other country and by my own effort. To finish my short introduction, I would like to emphasize that this is one of the most significant experiences of my life because I have learned how import is our family and sometimes we do not appreciate that when they are with us. I am growing as a person and as a professional, but I know all of this effort that I am making it worth. I hope that I can accomplish all my goals that I have I my mind ,but I know that I will with the God’s blessing we can do whatever we want.

Imagine killing your best friend. Imagine smashing him into a telephone pole, crushing his bones and organs and making him bleed to death. Imagine the pain and suffering he would go through. Imagine then going on trial for his death, facing his family and friends and the hateful stares as you walk in the courtroom. Imagine a verdict of guilty and being sentenced to thirty years in prison, thirty long years to sit alone and ponder how you could have been so stupid to kill someone you love. How would a night like this have begun? It probably began like the night of a typical American teenager. You would go pick up a carload of your closest friends and head to the party scene. There are a million different types of drinks there and you are offered a beer by some upperclassmen. You take it and chug it, trying to impress them. They offer you another and another, until finally you pass out. You are put, unconscious in a chair and the party goes on. The next morning someone tries to wake you, but you wont open your eyes. They call 911 and you are taken to the hospital. You are rushed into the ER and 10 minutes later are pronounced dead due to alcohol poisoning. This is how alcohol affects the teenagers of America today. It ruins lives and not only the lives of those who drink. It affects their friends and family. It even affects people they do not know, the thousands of people that are killed each year by drunk drivers. Many teens think they are invincible, that nothing will ever happen to them. They will never drink too much or be in an accident. But many lives are taken away because of underage drinking. These people are killed in an instant, squashed like bugs on a windshield. They never get to grow up and fulfill their dreams. They become that bum on the street, staggering around and yelling obscene comments.
